Blending Perspectives from Every Continent
Islamophobia is not merely a collection of isolated acts; it is a systemic, institutional and pervasive phenomenon rooted in irrational fear of Muslims and Islam, fueled by ignorance, prejudice and misinformation. This worldview shapes attitudes, policies and everyday practices across society. Manifestations range from violent attacks on Muslims and the demolition of mosques to the desecration of the Holy Quran and the disparagement of Muslim religious symbols like the hijab. In some contexts, state patronage of Islamophobic ideas or policy has led to disenfranchisement and economic marginalization of Muslims, increasing the threat of ghettoization. Taken together, these dynamics undermine safety, rights and dignity, and demand concerted action to confront prejudice, reform institutions, and promote inclusive, equal treatment for all communities.
